25 forgotten baby names that really need to make a comeback

Everything old is new again, or so the saying goes.

It seems to be true of Hammer pants and hair scrunchies, so why not baby names, too?

We’ve already seen some classic baby names make impressive comebacks in recent years, with expectant parents warming once again to old school picks like Oliver and Alice. It turns out, though, that there are many more great forgotten names just waiting to be discovered.

BabyCenter’s extensive baby name database includes annual rankings that go back as far as 1880. Some of the names on those lists are truly timeless: William, John, Emma and Elizabeth were all in the top 10 way back then, and they aren’t far from it today, either.

There are other choices — fantastic choices — that seem to have been overlooked in recent decades. Here are some of our favorite baby names that were in the top 100 over 100 years ago. These ones are long overdue for a comeback.

I love so many of the names on this list. Lula, Hattie, Flora, Otto: I’m crazy about all of them! And can’t you just picture little Alfie (Alfred) on his first day of school? Pretty adorable.

Parents in search of that perfect, unique (but not too unique) baby name may just want to look to the past.
