Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West recently welcome their third child via surrogate. Her name? Chicago West. Chicago joins the West family’s tradition of unique but not truly over-the-top baby names, including four-year-old North West and two-year-old Saint West. The name “Chicago” holds special significance for the family, since Kanye was raised in Chicago. On his song “Homecoming,” he raps about growing up in Chi Town. That name choice made us think about the preponderance of city-based names. And we started brainstorming other baby names that are cities too.

There are probably more baby names that are cities than you think. Parents often want to give their kids names of places that are especially important to them. People feel huge affinities for specific cities, whether it’s longing for Paris or remembering childhood memories of places like Savannah, Georgia, or, well, Chicago.

So to celebrate young Chicago West, long may she reign, we have compiled some fun baby names that are cities, along with a few reasons why each place is inspiring. Add them to your running child name brainstorming list. Because we know you have one.

Brooklyn

Though technically a borough, not a city, Brooklyn holds a special place in the hearts of many. When you think of Brooklyn, you think of hipsters and grungy bars and every episode of Girls. Gentrification, yes, but also great food! It contains multitudes.

Paris

With Paris, you get the double whammy of Paris Hilton comparisons and a reference to the gorgeous city of lights. The name Paris could encourage your child to become a socialite businesswoman. Or a romantic poet. The possibilities are endless!

Take a cue from the Jolie-Pitts (or Johnny Knoxville) and name your kid Knox. Though there are many cities called Knoxville in the U.S., the most well-known is Knoxville, Tennessee. It’s a smallish city nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. In conclusion, it recalls a sense of rugged charm perfect for any tiny, rambunctious tot.

Alexandria

Another option with multiple interpretations. On the one hand, you’ve got the picturesque city of Alexandria, Virginia. It’s home to Mount Vernon and close to D.C. Maybe this is a good name for a daughter who’s a budding politician! On the other hand, you’ve got a reference to the famous city of Alexandria in Egypt. Originally founded by Alexander the Great, Hellenistic-era Alexandria was a major cultural and trade center. Both of these Alexandrias set your kid up for major power and influence. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Savannah

Apparently not for everyone

The South is just full of well-named cities. Savannah, the oldest city in Georgia, is known as a beautiful seaport town. It’s home to lovely Victorian architecture, and also the Savannah School of Art and Design. So you’re surrounded by artistic types. This is a name for the artsy children among us.

Honorable mention baby names that are cities: Phoenix, Charlotte, Madison, Orlando, Austin, and Elizabeth.

Dig deep into that family history and pull out a name that reminds you of happy times. And also one that projects many expectations upon your lucky future child.
