These are the most popular baby names in Gloucestershire

You’re more likely to meet a Rufus, Barnaby, Mabel or Hazel in Gloucestershire than in the rest of England and Wales.

Figures from the Office for National Statistic show these are among the names that are more popular in the South West than they are in England and Wales as a whole.

Rufus was the 124th most popular name in the South West, compared to 266th across England and Wales, Barnaby was 124th in the South West and 235th in England and Wales, while Mabel was the 113th most popular girls name in the South West and 210th across England and Wales.

For girls, Hazel was the 118th most popular name in the South West, compared to 207th across England and Wales, while Tabitha was the 143rd most popular name in the South West and 211th across England and Wales.

For boys, Fletcher was the 143rd most popular name in the South West, compared to 233rd across England and Wales, while Morgan was the 129th most popular name in the South West and 217th across England and Wales.

Other names seeing more popularity in the South West than in England and Wales included Seren, Elodie, Alana and Aoife for girls and Bodhi, Rex, Wilfred and Rupert for boys.

There are also names that are less popular in the South West than in England and Wales. For girls, these included Maria, 113th in the South West, but 69th in England and Wales, and Leah, 140th in the South West and 99th in England and Wales, while for boys, Muhammad was 132nd in the South West and eighth in England and Wales, and Adam, 88th in the

A fifth of Rufuses, 45 out of 199, Barnabys, 46 out of 240, and Mabels, 46 out of 250, born in 2016 were born in the South West.
